今天2026年8月12日是「世界大象日」，令我想起古老的寓言《盲人摸象》。

一人摸到象鼻，說大象像一條蛇；另一人摸到象耳，說像一把扇；象腿像樹幹，身軀像牆壁，尾巴則像繩子。

每個人都誠實地描述自己摸到的部分，卻把一部分當成了全部。

他們摸到的並不是幾頭不同的大象，而是同一頭大象——只是各人的認識都不完整。

我們何嘗不是如此？看見一個行為，便評定一個人；經歷一次失敗，便否定整個人生；遇上一個尚未蒙應允的禱告，便懷疑上帝是否仍然同在。

智慧始於謙卑地承認：「我所看見的也許是真實，但未必是全部。」

回答以前先聆聽，判斷以前先了解；常存謙卑，並信靠那位看見全貌的主。

「我們如今彷彿對着鏡子觀看，模糊不清；到那時，就要面對面了。」——《哥林多前書》第13章第12節（和合本）

在世界大象日，願我們保護這些奇妙壯麗的生命，也記得牠們帶給我們的人生大課：

在說「我知道」以前，先問問自己：我真的看見了全部真相，還是手中只握着一條象尾？

A GIANT LESSON FROM A GENTLE GIANT

Today, August 12, 2026, is World Elephant Day. It brings to mind the ancient story of the blind men and the elephant.

One touched its trunk and called it a snake. Another felt its ear and said it was a fan. Its leg was a tree, its side a wall and its tail a rope.

Each man honestly described what he felt—but mistook one part for the whole.

There were not many different elephants. There was one elephant—and several incomplete perspectives.

How often do we do the same? We see one action and judge a person, experience one failure and judge our entire life, or face one unanswered prayer and wonder whether God is still present.

Wisdom begins when we can say, “What I see may be real, but it may not be all there is.”

Listen before answering. Ask before judging. Remain humble—and trust the One who sees the whole picture.

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.” —1 Corinthians, Chapter 13, Verse 12 (New International Version)

On World Elephant Day, may we protect these magnificent creatures—and remember their giant lesson:

Before saying, “I know,” ask yourself: Am I seeing the whole truth—or am I only holding the tail?
